Thulesius Works
Thulesius Works is an blacksmith/metalworking studio founded and run by Frans Lukas Thulesius.
The vision behind Thulesius Works is to preserve the traditions of blacksmithing while exploring the possibilities of modern metal craftsmanship. Every piece is created with respect for time-honoured techniques, combined with contemporary design, precision, and artistic expression.
Inspired by contemporary design and a passion for working with steel, I strive to create pieces that are both functional and timeless. Whether it is a handcrafted knife, architectural metalwork. Every project is approached with the same dedication to quality, detail, and authenticity.
My goal is not only to create exceptional work, but also to demonstrate that traditional forging and modern metal art can exist together—honouring the past while shaping something new.
blacksmithing and metal work
About me
I am Frans Lukas Thulesius, a 20-year-old Norwegian blacksmith currently working as an apprentice at the Hardanger Maritime Centre. My work in Thulesius works is driven by the ambition to bridge the rich traditions of Norwegian blacksmithing with contemporary metal art and modern architectural design.
As I continue to develop my craft, my goal is to establish my own workshop, where I can create architectural metalwork that brings traditional forging into modern spaces. I believe that blacksmithing should continue to evolve while remaining true to the techniques and values that have shaped the craft for centuries.
Knifemaking has become a defining part of my work and of Thulesius Works. Through pattern-welded steel, I explore the artistic possibilities of the material while creating functional tools designed for everyday use. Each knife is both a practical object and an expression of craftsmanship, demonstrating what can be achieved when traditional forging techniques meet modern design.
